CWSF Fredericton 2015

Tour Day.

Today was tour day. Finalists and Delegates had one of four tours we were assigned to based on our choices during registration.

Shelby, Natasha, and Susan went on the Magnificent Fundy Trail tour. It was a leisurely walk on the ocean floor, an exploration of the sea caves, beaches, waterfalls, and a walk along the beautiful beaches. They had a very light lunch in the picturesque fishing village of St. Martins. Finally they ended at Falls View Park where the water reverses with the coming and going of the tides in the Bay of Fundy.

Sonia Meaghan and Abhi spent the day touring New Brunswick's Hopewell Rocks and Cape Enrage. At the iconic Hopewell Rocks at low tide, they could see fossils and billion year old rocks with through the interpretive guides. At Cape Enrage, Sonia, Meaghan and Abhi would see the home to one of the oldest lighthouses on New Brunswick's Fundy coastline. After exploring these fascinating tidal areas they enjoyed lunch at Broadleaf Guest Ranch.

I think that's Meaghan...

Tony was solo today on his tour to the beautiful St. Andrews By-the-Sea and St. Stephen. His tour took him to the Huntsman Marine Science Centre, Minister’s Island and the delicious St. Stephen Chocolate Factory.  There, St. Andrews By-the-Sea offers spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy!

What better way to have a fish-n-chip lunch than by the sea. Well done Tony

James, Om and Favian spend the day in and around Saint John, NB in a fun and interactive way! Their tour included a behind the scenes experience at the New Brunswick Museum, walking in the historic uptown district of Saint John, studying the geology and geocaching in picturesque Rockwood Park, and finally a visit to the Reversing Falls!

It started to drizzle a bit on us

The rocks were very old...over 300,000,000 years old

On our way down to the Necropsy Lab and behind the scenes workings of the Museum

There's a leather back turtle shell on that lab table...and various other dead organisms.
Whale bones...perhaps a fin.

The Necropsy Lab really stunk as evidenced by Om's reaction.

More whale bones.

Saint John Secondary School just got out as we walked by. It looks like a tough school.

The four groups staggered their arrival back at UNB Fredericton tonight. Unfortunately for Natasha and Shelby, the lunch on their tour was a bit too light and they were very hungry by dinner time. When the returned, their first stop was the dining hall. Too funny! The rest of the group later joined them.

It was a beautiful clear evening and half of Team South Fraser opted out of the social-media activity and instead went to the Finalists' Lounge for games and socializing. The rest remained in their rooms. By 10PM, all were exhausted and got ready for bed.

This was the other side.

The perfect entrance way for Meaghan. It's even spelled correctly.

Tomorrow, we have a later start with science workshops in the morning. Breakfast at 8AM.

  2. Wow! It looks like the team experienced the incredible world famous sites of New Brunswick! Those of you who gazed eastward across the Bay of Fundy at Nova Scotia were looking at my house!
